 Job Shadowing

BROWN COUNTY, OH, students JOB SHADOW

Are you a high school student or an adult interested in a health care career but want more information? The Health Council's collaborative job shadowing program is the ideal way for potential health care professionals to get a behind-the-scenes look at the daily responsibilities of their career choice!

Job Shadowing is an experience offered to students or adults who have a definite interest in a career in the health care industry. It allows the individual the opportunity to explore health care occupations in the working environment.
PLEASE NOTE:  Participants must be at least 16 years of age to participate.

During the job shadowing experience, the shadower is paired with a health care professional (Nurse, Radiology Technician, Pharmacist, Respiratory Therapist, Laboratory Technician, etc.). The student is assigned to observe the professional as they perform their job. This experience typically lasts 3 to 4 hours.

Job Shadowing will provide the participant with:

  • A realistic experience in the work day of his/her career choice
  • An opportunity to expand his/her knowledge about his/her field of interest
  • Exploration of the many career options in the health care field.

To job shadow, participants will need the following:

  • A current immunization record which includes MMR; if records are not available, you must have an MMR or the titer drawn.
  • A two-step TB test (within 12 months) for all hospitals except St. Elizabeth Healthcare in KY which requires one TB test only.  A two-step TB test is actually 2 TB tests and 2 results.    If you have had one TB test in the past 12 months, only one more TB test is required.
  • A completed emergency medical authorization and consent form (minors).
  • Attendance at a GCHC orientation program - scheduled after all forms are completed and received by the Health Council.
    • Orientations are offered monthly (one in KY and one in OH each month). The Kentucky location is the Florence One Stop and the Ohio location is the Greater Cincinnati Health Council office in Norwood. Orientation dates are assigned after all materials are sent to GCHC. Orientations are on Wednesday's @ 3:00pm and the class is approximately 1 1/2 hrs long.

**Once you have completed all forms and requirements for the program, mail or fax (513.531.0278) the forms and your records to the Health Council, Attn. Workforce Center.  You will then be contacted to schedule your orientation.
